Available in several grades (42, 50, 55, 60, 65 ksi), Grade 50 is the most common, delivering a minimum yield strength of 50,000 psi (50 ksi).

This enhanced strength is achieved through the addition of alloying elements, such as vanadium and columbium, which also improve atmospheric corrosion resistance and notch toughness. A572 round bars exhibit good weldability using standard methods and fair machinability, although they may require more force to cold form than plain carbon steel.
